Lisa Tomcko is a journalist and freelance writer living in the Chicago area. Born and raised in the North Shore, the first time she left it at length was to attend Indiana University Bloomington. She graduated in May 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a second concentration (24 credit hours) in business and a minor in Italian. 


During her college years, she worked as a page designer, copy editor and reporter for the Indiana Daily Student newspaper. In her classes, she focused on magazine journalism, serving as co-online editor for 
812 Magazine. She had the satisfaction of seeing the two articles she wrote for the magazine become the first and third most popular articles on 812magazine.com. 

Her work with 812 garnered her professional freelancing assignments right out of school with two Bloomington-area magazines, Homes & Lifestyles and Adventure Indiana. She recently completed a 14-week editorial internship with Imagination Publishing in Chicago. During her internship, she reported and wrote articles for PM Network and MyBusiness, magazines boasting circulations of more than 650,000 and 400,000, respectively. She also tried her hand at script writing for the first time and refreshed her video editing skills. 

Lisa currently works as an editorial assistant for an editorial services company in downtown Chicago.
